I'm a blonde.

This thread is dedicated to all my blonde moments. 'Nuf said.

Last Sunday I was rushing around my house trying to get a ton of stuff done so that I would (1) have a clean room, (2) get to watch the Sopranos, (3) be able to relax spinning fire, and (4) still be able to get obscenely early to go to work. So ... I was scurrying, putting things away, hanging them up, and organizing.

I see my favorite pair of jeans lying on the floor and ask myself if I should throw them away. The drawstrings have broken so I have had to resort to rolling the waistband down to keep them up. But recently the button has gone missing from the front, so rolling them down isn't even effective ... and it just looks ghetto. But they are so comfortable! And the cuffs are frayed just right!

It occurs to me that sewing a button on isn't beyond my capabilities so I toss the jeans, a new spare button that came with a new pair of jeans, a pair of scissors and my sewing kit onto my leather chair in the livingroom. In this manner I hope to be efficient while watching the Sopranos - by sewing! Kindof. I think coupling a task with a pleasure could make for it not being such a chore.

After much more picking up, it is time to see what the mafia has been up to this week and I settle in to dredge up clues and decipher what is *really* being said by my favorite TV Italians. Meanwhile, I sew. I choose a pretty light blue thread, thread the needle, tie the knot in the end and set to work. I am very careful to center the button, use lots of stiches since I don't want to do it AGAIN next week, and tie it all off with several knots on the back side. Satisfied and feeling homemakerish, I fold up the jeans, put them in my room, and return to the antics of Ade and Christopher.

The next morning while dressing for work, I spot my jeans, momentarily forgetting that I have fixed them. I pass them up knowing that pants that fall down aren't acceptable in my workplace, as casual as it is. Then I remember, with glee, the button sewn on with blue thread! I can wear them! I pull them on and go to button the new button and my spirits plummet. I have sewn it on the wrong side.

*sigh*

The button was supposed to be INSIDE the waistband ... not outside. If I look on the bright side, though, even in the daylight, it was perfectly centered and the blue thread *was* pretty.

A girl was visiting her blonde friend who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were.

The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and one was named Timex.

Her friend said, "Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?"

    "HelOOOooo," answered the blonde.
    "They're watch dogs!"

well this is a geek blonde moment ... i am sure none of you will care about.

my valuation wasn't working right and it all came down to hire dates. the database had those that were supposed to be over 1/1/2000 as 1900's. i pondered a way to fix this.

the import file had the dates correct, so fixing THAT and reimporting wasn't going to work. i got frustrated, nearly cried (i was up late ... do forgive me), until i remembered the #date operators in the system.

    ahhhh!

    date_hire = (date_hire #dateplus 100y) if date_hire < 1/1/1905

    *sighs with happiness*

oh, and then i promptly forgot to rerun all the expression sets that assign values to other fields BASED on the hire_date so it took me a while longer to fix what i was trying to fix.

this doesn't make any sense to anyone but me .... hahahaha!
    i'm giddy. can you tell?

    credit cards.

it was my job to rent the car for a recent trip to seattle for dragi and i. before the trip, however, i couldn't find my credit card. either of them. i had them the week before to pay my taxes and go out to lunch, but now when i needed them they were nowhere to be found.

i bring my credit card statement to the rental agency but no go. no car for us. we are stuck with shuttles and the train and taxis for the trip.

upon return, i am immediately sent by my company to jacksonville florida for a client emergency. i have to book a flight for the next day, but because it is a very recently bought ticket, i need to have the card *present* the next day to board. so now even my business trip is in jeapardy. i have to go home and search.

so i search and search and finally think to look for the *spare* credit card they send me when i need replacements for expired cards. i find THAT easily. hoorah! i can go to jacksonville!

this is blonde moment number 1, as i could have thought of that a week ago and saved us some hassle.

blonde moment number two comes the next morning as i am grabbing my bags and checking for my id in my purse on my way out the door. i pull out my checkbook which i always have with me, open it, and out falls my two credit cards.

even brunettes have blonde moments it appears.

overheard this morning was a conversation that went something like this:

guy: i was born before my parents got married.
    brunette: really? and your brother?
guy: oh, i think my mother was pregnant with him when they got married.
brunette: oh! so, which one of you is older?

but maybe it has more to do with the fact i am in florida.

i just washed my cell phone.

i hope it lived to the spin cycle. it would be a shame if it drowned before the fun part of the ride.

          works again.

the spin cycle put it out of commission for a week of drying ... but it seems to be fine now. it just gets a little foggy if i breathe to hard. ;)

Ember my darling there jsut is not enough room to truely give this woman the due she truly deserves. we have just condensed it to a few words but to be honest this is the most open, loving, caring, daring, real woman I have ever met. I thank the stars above for putting her into my life and giving me the love we share and will alwasy cherish it more greatly then anything I can espouse in words.

How do you adequately capture the rapture and awe of Special K? Does it do the woman justice to say she is sensual, sexy, and alluring? Or rather is she cheapened by the limitations of our language which can no better capture the majesty of a summer sunset from a perfect beach of white sand and multi-hued clouds scattered across the banded sky than it can weave the proper oration to pay homage to this amazing, gifted, brilliant, woman so very worthy of worship, awe, adoration and desire. Chance may take the lucky and give him voice to speak of her in acceptable phrases, but alas, I have not the luck to have the literary muse to say all that I would say of her grace, elegance, beauty, poise, wit, wisdom, brilliance, and humor.

So, I shall just smile fondly at you all and think of her in ways no words can express, and know that you all know what I do not speak of. I will feel bonded to you all by the limitations of our words adn boudless love in our hearts...

i am not sure this post belongs in this thread ... you can decide.

i woke up this morning (after passing out with exhaustion last night after getting a HepB vaccination) and opened the face of my laptop. i had three windows of websurfing going on: tribe, email, and jobsearch. except that the jobsearch window was now a yahoo search on "yum".

who thinks the kitten was hungry and has learned how to type?

did you know that yum is a stock market ticker symbol for the company who owns hoover vacuums?

uh, YUM is the NYSE stock ticker symbol for Yum! Brands, a collection of fast food franchises including KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, A&W, and Long John Silver's -- basically the most evil ones...
